Pets in general and cats and dogs in particular are very well known for bringing dirt from the outside, peeing or scratching the carpet and leaving you with the mess. After a playful day outside most pets run inside with muddy paws and they manage to get stains all over the carpet or the floor which is hard to clean most of the times and most people restrict their pet’s playing area just so they could deal with the problem. Many of us have experienced this as a problem as we have just brought a new clean carpet which we spent money on and now it is ruined in a split second. Has it happened to you? I bet is has. Also torn up carpets is not a very good first impression to someone when they walk into your house for the first time so that would be something you want to avoid too.

Carpets and pets: are they compatible?

So if you are reading this I am guessing you do love your pet, whatever kind it is and you want to find out how to keep your carpet clean and to teach your pet to no play with the carpet. Well here are some ways that could potentially help you to train your pet to do the right thing:

Buy a Spray Repellent- That is something you spray on the area where you want to your pet to stay away from. It is not a harmful substance for them at all but it is affected in its path to help you. There are many cheap repellents which you can buy in pet shops or online. Cats do not like citrus smells and they stay away from it, so be assure that if you spray the area you want your cat to stay away from them they will.

After each play time, clean your pet- After your pet has been out on its adventures, just keep a cloth next to the door, wet a bit of it and simple wipe away the dirt from the animal’s paws. If you wanted to clean the pet more then give them a nice smelling, hot shower. Do not use any wet wipes or products which you use yourself, those may be harmful to the skin and irritable to their paws.

Keep the cat litter clean- Clean the cat litter often so the cat goes in it instead of on the carpet or any other furniture. Some cats change their place where to pee because of infections or because they are stressed out, so look out for that!

Teach them verbally- When they are doing something wrong, tell them it is wrong in a firm voice, not shouting at them because that would make them scared or even more temped to do it again.

I got my paw stuck!- Cats don’t like their paws stuck to anything like cello tape so if you put a piece of it in the area you want them to avoid them they will stay away from it. As well you could use rubber spikes, which would not harm your pet and they will stay away from them because they don’t like their paws to the pricked.

Most of all keep in mind you need to guide your pet where to scratch or go to the toilet so help them with that and you will surely be staying out of depth with the your carpet company!

If you need more tips on how to teach your pets on how to behave or on cleaning your carpet after the pets give us a call or contact us here.

Cleaning your workplace is often a challenge to both the employer and the employee. It might feel that cleaning at the workplace is not your responsibility, but there are a few questions that you need to ask yourself. Do you spend your days in the office? Do you use phones, computers, printers? Do you eat on your desk? If you do any of these things every day, then the weekly cleaning paid by your boss might not be enough.

Why cleaning your workspace is important?

Cleaning your workplace seems to be the last thing you would want to do, especially when you have to finish a report or work on a project. But the workplace is first of all, a common space, where everyone comes and spreads germs, bacteria and dirt. A telephone that is used by more than one person has 72% more bacteria than a phone used by one person. The same is valid for computers, printers and other appliances. The situation gets worse when most cleaning maids admit that they do not clean office appliances because they are afraid not to break something. In addition, most people drink coffee, snack or even eat lunch on their desk, which spreads dirt and leaves the food in direct contact with the bacteria.

Simple rules for cleaning your workplace

Surely, you can’t be bothered to clean thoroughly every day, but there are some simple rules you can use every day to keep germs away.

Use anti-bacterial wet tissues to clean surfaces – your desk and working space. Wipe out every morning and every time before and after you eat.

Clean your computer and especially the keyboard on a regular basis. Use special germ-killing substances for computers, otherwise you can damage the monitor or the cables.

Remove piles of unnecessary documents or old newspapers – they tend to gather dust and create additional mess.

Invest in storage. Buy folders, drawers or anything you might need to store your documents and other materials. The more tidy your desk is, the easier it is to find something.

Use wireless appliances – the less cables means neat appearance and less dust mice in the corners.

Keep the food and drinks as far from your desk as possible. You can damage your documents, your computer and spread food bacteria all over your desk. It is much better to go outside for lunch or have your coffee in fresh air

Don’t forget your basic hygiene – wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze and stay away from your sick colleagues.

Reading clothing labels

Clothing labels are a real challenge when it comes to laundry. Confusing images, abbreviations and numbers indicate how you should wash your garments to make them last longer and preserve the colors. Most clothing labels indicate the material of the garment, where it was produced and some information about the producers. Some companies make their labels more friendly by writing the washing instructions in words, and some use a combination of signs and numbers.

Reading clothing labels – a quick guide:

The sign that looks like a washing basin indicates the washing method and temperature. A small hand means you can only hand-wash it, a number indicates the degrees. Some labels indicate the temperature with dots – one dot for cold, two dots for warm and three for hot water. If the washing basin is crossed, this means no washing.

The triangle sign indicates the bleaching instructions. An empty triangle means that you can use any bleach safely. Two lines allow non-chlorine based bleach to be used and black crossed triangle means no bleaching.

The square sign refers to drying. A square with black circle inside means no tumble drying is allowed. A square with circle and one dot allows tumble dry in low heat. Two dots are medium heat and three dots is high temperature allowed.

A small iron sign gives information about the ironing. Crossed iron does not allow ironing, and the dots indicate the temperature again.

A circle means that dry cleaning is allowed, and a crossed circle means do not dryclean. Additional letters and/or numbers give information to the cleaner.

Stain removal is a necessity for most families. The kids leaving chocolate marks, the pet with muddy paws, the hubby and his greasy motor oil, the guests and the red wine – the list of stains can be endless. Stain removal can feel like a new challenge every time when you do laundry. As professional cleaners, we can give you a few tips, which will help you wash away those stains without destroying your clothes.

Tips for stain removal

First of all, treat the stain immediately. Fresh stains can be removed much easier than old stains. Read the label of the fabric carefully. Check the neckline, the side seam or the inside of the cloth. Follow the instructions carefully – do not wash if it says dry clean, use the appropriate degrees and do not bleach if it says so. Different fabrics are cleaned in different ways, and different stains have different antidotes.

Synthetic textiles such as acrylic, nylon and polyester are usually durable and can be bleached, as long as you keep them away from acetone and paint thinners. Cotton, linen and other natural plant fabrics can be bleached in a more diluted solution, but keep in mind that regular bleaching makes the fabric weaker and more prone to tear. Silk, wool and cashmere fabrics, on the other hand, can literary dissolve in a stronger chlorine bleach and would yellow or stiffen in another bleaching solution. These should always be treated with extra care.

Types of stains and stain removal

These cleaning methods should be used only for washable fabrics. Clothes with “Dry cleaning only” label should be taken to a dry cleaning as soon as possible.

Remove the excess. If the stop is made with liquid, wipe it off. Other substances can be brushed off with clean paper or white towel.

Mud stains are much easier to remove when they are dry. Use your hair dryer to dry it and then just peel it off. If you notice a small brownish stain left, do not wet it, but instead pat it or rub it. It is just dust and will fade easily.

Milk, egg, baby food or blood stains should be cleaned with cold water only.

Avoid excessive rubbing, as it can damage the cloth, fade the color or spread the stain.

Oil stains, including automobile oils and cosmetics should be covered with a thick layer of salt as soon as possible. Leave the salt for some time, as it absorbs the oil. If you are lucky, when you remove the salt, there will be no stain. If you can still see the spot, wash according to the instructions with liquid detergent.

Wine, beer, fruits and fruit juices, coffee and tea spots contain tannin, which will only get worse if it is treated with soap. Use appropriate detergent and hot water.

Dyes, ink and grass stains are difficult to remove. Rinse the fabric with the appropriate detergent and if needed, soak the stain in a diluted solution.

Chewing gum needs a special treatment. Put the clothing in the freezer for some time, until the gum hardens. Then scrape it off. If there is still a noticeable spot, put a white cloth on the stain and iron it. The chewing gum should transfer to the white cloth. Repeat as many times as it is necessary to remove the stain.

Fingernail polish could be removed only from non-synthetic fabrics. Use a tampon with nail polish remover to rub off the spot. Synthetic fabrics should be removed from professional dry cleaners.

Rust can be removed with special detergents, but avoid those that contain hydrofluoric acid, because they are extremely toxic and can burn the skin. You can try a solution of salt and lemon juice – sprinkle it on the stain and then sun dry the garment. Beware, the lemon juice can bleach some colors.

For persistent or old stain removal on your upholstery or carpet, book a professional cleaner.

Why spring cleaning?

Spring symbolises a new beginning, it is the start of the fresh sunny weather when the nature and the people begin their new lives. So let the sun in your home and enjoy the fresh spring scents! Or, wait a minute? Can you feel the sun through these dirty windows? Do you really feel the fresh nature scents or is it the old nasty odours from your kitchen? Perhaps there is no better way to let the spring in than spring cleaning. We know that it can be time consuming, so follow these simple tips for a quick refreshment of your whole home in no time!

Spring cleaning is a piece of cake

These professional cleaning techniques will make your house clean in no time.

Start with the windows. Use rubber-edged squeegees, which are quicker and more effective than any other means. First dip a sponge into warm water and wet the window. Rub away the dirt and then use the squeegee. The proper technique is to start at an upper corner and draw it down. Repeat, overlapping strokes and wipe the rubber edge after each stroke. For bigger windows, use the snake technique and an extension.

Remove the dust. You won’t believe how much dust there is on your furniture, between the books and even the lightbulbs and the lamps! A microfiber clothe dampened with some water would polish the surface.

Wash the blinds and curtains. Curtains should be washed in the washing machine depending on the materials. Blinds might be a little bit more difficult. Wooden blinds should be wiped with a slightly dampened sponge. Aluminum blinds are washed outside or in the bathroom – scrub with water and a sponge. If heavily soiled, use a hose or a stronger cleaning substance. Dry well before placing them back.

Clean the fridge. Use eco-friendly cleaning solutions when you clean close to food. For example, two tablespoons of baking soda and a quart of warm water make an excellent solution to wipe up all spills and stains in the fridge. Throw old food and wash the removable shelves and drawers in the solution. Let glass shelves adjust to room temperature first, so warm water won’t crack them.

Deep clean your carpets, rugs and upholstery. You can try to do this alone by using different carpet shampoos, but you risk loosing your manufacturer guarantee and destroying your carpets and furniture. It is best to use professional carpet cleaning machines, such as Prochem, as well as the services of a professional. Deep cleaning prolongs the life of your carpet and furniture and leaves your home clean and fresh.

Replace your bed linen and table clothes for a quick spring makeover. It takes just five minutes, but makes wonders for the mood and the appearance of the room!

Store your cuddly warm clothes, pyjamas and blankets. Use our tricks for a quicker and better storage and take our the summer dresses and sexy shorts.

Open windows, a bunch of flowers and a nice fresh home will make your spring!

The spring is here and it is time for all poor souls in England to get out of the “wet” season and enjoy drier sunnier times. Most people have summer and winter clothes and for those with extra shopping abilities, there might be a whole range of spring clothes as well. But when you start leaving your parka at home and the people in the tube start smelling, you know it is time for a spring cleaning of your wardrobe. So take our your sexy summer dresses and follow our tips on storing your winter clothes!

There are some tips and tricks that can help you store your winter clothes in a better way, so they don’t loose shape and appearance. Wool sweaters, down jackets and furs are naturally prone to being damaged by moths and mildew. But make sure to protect all your clothes following these simple rules:

1. Always wash or dry clean your clothes before storing them for the summer. Even if it is worn only once, human skin leaves flakes and dirt in the material that can be damaging and make clothes more attractive to bugs.

2. Choose well your storage container. It should permit free circulation of air through the clothing, so avoid plastic bags. Best is to use a container such as a rattan trunk or textile bags to store your winter clothes.

3. The storage area should also be dry and cool to avoid mildew. Avoid using silica gel or mothballs or crystals, because they can be harming for you and the environment and emit very strong smells. Opt for more eco-friendly substances as alternative to mothballs.

4. A small nice trick is to put unwrapped soaps or herbal bags in your closet. It will scent your winter clothes for the next winter.

5. Do not stretch, bend or twist the fabrics when you store your winter clothes. Pad bags and purses with tissue or old newspapers. If you use vacuum bags, it is even more important to place the clothes in a natural position – any folding or twisting will damage your clothes and destroy their shape.

Store winter clothes of different materials:

You should always use store your winter clothes according to their material to prolong their life.

Natural materials such as linen, cotton, wool and silk need to breathe. Do not store them in vacuum bags, but opt for a well-ventilated area in containers with holes. Store flat – if you must to hang them, pad them well with tissue paper. Linen is best to be rolled or lightly folded.

Furs should be placed in a cool dry space, covered with another textile. Do not place in vacuum bags. Pad well to keep the shape.

Leather should be cleaned and then applied leather wax thoroughly. Apply several times, if necessary, until there is an even layer of wax all over the garment. This will protect it and it will refresh it for the next winter. The same method should be used for leather shoes. Do not place leather in vacuum bags, it destroys the appearance and the shape.

Most acrylic textiles could be placed in vacuum bags, but again make sure that you don’t destroy the shape of the garment by folding it improperly.

What is eco-friendly cleaning?

This term simply means that all cleaning methods and detergents do not cause harm to the environment. Many chemicals used on everyday basis can be destructive for our environment – for example, most washing powder contains phosphates which destroy most animal and plant life once they get released from the sewage. Soaps, shampoos, personal hygiene products and home cleaning substances can also be very harmful. Look under your kitchen sink – most detergents you find there contain the words poison, danger, warning, caution, hazard. That indicates high levels of toxicity for you and for your environment. Eco-friendly cleaning means avoiding these products in favour of cheaper, more ecological substances.

Why eco-friendly cleaning?

The benefits of eco-friendly cleaning are numerous. Firstly, the strong chemicals usually used for cleaning can be swallowed or inhaled by you and your children, they can cause harm to the skin or eyes. Cleaning with such substances influences the human body in long term indirect ways – chemicals lower the level of concentration, your energy and breathing capacity. The strong detergents also harm your house by damaging textiles, wood, furniture. Eco-friendly cleaning can kill bacteria and remove dirt just as well as the strong chemicals and will not cause any danger to you or your family. Moreover, eco-friendly cleaning is cheaper and much more pleasant way to clean your home.

Our tips for eco-friendly cleaning

1. Look under the kitchen sink and take out all cleaning detergents. They should not be in your kitchen, because they can directly go into your food – through spilling or emitting chemicals in the air. Not to mention the danger when your kid comes in search of food and finds a brightly coloured bottle.

2. Always keep your cleaning solutions in a locked cupboard. Doesn’t matter how safe they are, it is not a bad idea to keep it away from children and pets.

3. Avoid using and buying substances with the words poison, danger, warning, caution, hazard. Choose non-toxic, biodegradable substitutes or try to make your own cheaper home-made cleaning solutions.

4. Educate yourself. Know which products are harmful to you and your house, which substances destroy the environment and try to avoid those.

5. Wash well your sponges, mops and other cleaning accessories after cleaning. This will prolong their life and stop the spreading of dangerous chemicals around your house. Try to use reusable, natural sponges and mops.

6. Learn how to make home-made cleaning solutions. Basic kitchen products may easily become a good eco-friendly cleaning detergents. For example, lemon juice and white vinegar do magic when used on wooden floors or furniture – they clean, kill bacteria, do not harm the wood and leave it sparkly and fresh. Baking soda is another kitchen wonder – it is a non-abrasive cleanser for kitchen counter tops, sinks, bathtubs, ovens, and fiberglass. It will eliminate perspiration odors and even neutralize the smell of many chemicals.

7. Do not compromise the quality of your cleaning. If you really need to use strong chemicals for cleaning, use professional cleaning services. Use methods that are tested and approved, such as steam-cleaning for your carpet and upholstery.

What are the Carpet beetles?

Carpet beetles may also be called “wooly bears” or “buffallo moths”. They can be in various shapes, sizes and colors – the black carpet beetle, for example, can reach up to 1/2 inch and is brownish in color. The most popular types of carpet beetles are also dark and regularly reach 1/4 inch (6 to 25mm).

Should I be worried?

Carpet beetles are attracted to soil fabrics and crevices which serve as a source of food. You need to take extra care if you have pets and children, or areas that are exposed to outdoor dirt. Carpet beetles might be especially dangerous for people with allergies or people with weaker immune system.

Is my carpet affected from Carpet beetles?

Examine your carpet carefully. Carpet beetles are very likely to appear in spring and summer, because we open our windows more often and they can be attracted to the smell of food. They usually opt for undisturbed areas, dark places, organic materials – cotton, wool, fur, silk. If the house has been uninhabited for some time, take an extra care to check the rugs and the upholstery. Female bugs lay their eggs in the carpet, but they can also live in your sofa, cushions, your bed or clothing. Damages and beetle nests may not be immediately visible, so make sure that you check thoroughly. Holes in the carpet are very likely to attract the beetles or be caused by their eggs. The mature bugs can be seen around baseboards or windows.

What should I do if i find Carpet beetles in my Carpet at Home?

First and best method is prevention. Make sure that you vacuum clean regularly and thoroughly. Use a powerful vacuuming machine and clean the bag of the canister every time after you use the machine. Clean your carpet promptly if you drop food or drinks, leaving it may create a good environment for the beetles. Do not attempt to wash the carpets and the upholstery with water – soaking and long hours of drying can lead to other problems like mold, mildew, bacteria and cause health issues. It is a good idea to use professional carpet cleaning services minimum once per year.
In case you find carpet beetles or their nests, vacuum clean the carpet or the upholstery immediately. We suggest you to use steam cleaning for best results. Often it is more expensive if you try to remove the insects yourself, because you need to buy detergents and special equipment, not to mention that it is very time-consuming if you need to repeat the job several times.
Steam cleaning uses hot temperature and specialized treatment to kill the bugs in your carpet and remove the dirt. The drying times of carpet and upholstery are usually only a couple of hours, so you will only need one day to get rid of the insects and have a fresh clean home! Steam cleaning is environmentally friendly and also prolongs the life of your furniture and carpets.
